ACTUALLY, the term was APPROPRIATED. it originally was used to describe BLACK YOUTHS OF THE JAZZ CULTURE. it stemmed from “hep cat” to “hepster” to “hipster.”
the definition of what a hipster is changed so much throughout the coining but all in all: WHITE PEOPLE APPROPRIATED THE TERM AND THE CULTURE.
