Black People have been oppressed for so long that we don’t realize how we sometimes play into our own demise. One of the reasons that we see that we some of the revolving mis-educated cycles that we do in the Black community today is because we make some of the same mistakes that those before us made. Too many of us believe that by shielding the children from the reality of being Black in a Racist nation it will somehow protect them from Racism. We think that if we don’t teach our kids the truth about what White people have done to their ancestors then they are “safe” from White Supremacy. They are safe from White Amerikkka. We create these illusions in our heads of us living in a free and equal society that it comes back to bite us in the ass. Some of us pass these messages to the youth like “We Are all Americans” and have them growing up saying “God Bless America”. All these things do is benefit White people and maintain White Supremacy. How can we ever prepare the younger generations to combat racism if we don’t teach them about it? As @Solar_innerg once stated, hiding your child from the reality of racism will not protect them from it. In fact, it will make Racism hurt even more because when your hit by it, you will be oblivious. The punch that always knocks you out is the one you don’t see coming. We don’t live in the 70’s anymore; Racism is not in your face. Today it’s hidden and concealed behind some of the greatest illusions one could ever imagine; even a Black man in the White House. Teach the kids about Police Brutality. Teach them about Mass Incarceration. Teach them what was done to their ancestors. Teach them how Amerikkka came to be and that American means White.
